Ever since I started working with a mason all the way back in 2006, so much of the appeal came from the stories. How Mr. Plante was a member of the 82 Airborne. And learned the trade while in France. Or how powerful he was. And how he sacrificed everything for his children to get great educations. The stories would always be tied to an actual job he did years ago. Seeing his work while hearing about him. It made the idea of masonry mythical. How what we do can last not just decades but centuries. That even though we die, our work can live on and be appreciated by generations of people. There are so many stories to tell, in word and stone.
